SAUST project showcased at the Projects to Policy Seminar 2025
The Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) and Futuro Perfecto Innovation (FPI) represented the SAUST project at the Projects to Policy Seminar (PPS) 2025, organised by DG HOME and REA.
This high-level seminar was designed to strengthen the link between EU-funded security research projects and policy-making. Its two principal objectives were to enable policymakers to better understand project outcomes and identify exploitable results, and to guide projects in positioning their outputs to influence policy and future funding programs.
The SAUST project actively participated in the “Strengthening, Research & Innovation” session, where key topics such as pre-commercial procurement, engagement with Law Enforcement Agencies, and clustering activities were discussed. During the second breakout session on “Advanced Surveillance, Detection and Robotics”, we presented the core components of the SAUST solution, emphasizing our commitment to delivering a validated, operational prototype by the project’s conclusion. We also proposed exploring synergies and collaboration opportunities with other EU-funded initiatives, including PARCEL, Border-Link, and I-Flows.
PPS 2025 provided invaluable insights and practical recommendations that will enable the SAUST project to maximize its policy impact, enhance end-user engagement, strengthen exploitation activities, and foster meaningful synergies through clustering. Proactive follow-up on these lessons will significantly enhance the project’s overall impact and long-term adoption
potential.

DETECTION HUB Workshop on Clustering Innovative Scientific Approaches to Enhance the Detection of Drugs, Explosives, and Illicit Goods
Last December 13, 2024, SAUST project partner Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) co-organised the DETECTION HUB Workshop in Madrid, Spain. This was organised along with EU funded projects: DrugDetect, MELCHIOR Project, BAG-INTEL & PARSEC.

The workshop featured insightful presentations from the organizing projects, multi-sectoral panels focused on detection and procurement topics, and discussions on upcoming opportunities for EU-funded research and innovation in civil security and border management.

SAUST project partners, FPI and MION participated in the workshop as well.

SAUST Participation in the 2025 Detection Hub Workshop
On June 17–18, 2025, FPI represented the SAUST project at the second edition of the Detection Hub Workshop in Riga, Latvia, and the SilentBorder demonstration in Tõrvandi,
Estonia.
Organized by KEMEA and GScan respectively, these events brought together multiple Horizon Europe projects to discuss cutting-edge research and real-world challenges in detecting illicit goods and strengthening border security across the EU.
Key takeaways for SAUST included:
-
Strategic alignment with AI-enhanced scanning and anomaly detection systems.
-
Valuable contacts and collaboration prospects with complementary initiatives.
-
Reinforced relevance of SAUST’s focus on smart, unattended surveillance in customs and logistics environments.

This participation reflects SAUST’s active contribution to EU-wide innovation and its ongoing commitment to designing field-ready solutions through engagement with end-users and research partners.
