A recent drug seizure at Pearson Airport highlights the importance of effective and innovative screening technologies in detecting concealed substances. On May 26, 2025, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers discovered 3.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside shoes, with an estimated street value of $437,000. The traveller involved was handed over to the RCMP along with the confiscated drugs.

The CBSA credited the discovery to a combination of contraband detection technologies, including ion mobility spectrometry, x-rays, and Narcotic Identification Kits, alongside the expertise and training of their officers. These tools demonstrate the crucial role of advanced detection systems in maintaining border security and public safety.
