ODYSSEUS

Unobtrusive Technologies for Secure and Seamless Border Crossing for Travel Facilitation

ODYSSEUS is a Horizon Europe funded project that aims to enhance the experience of border crossing for travellers and border authorities’ staff while keeping secure and tracking the movements across external water and land borders of the EU. This initiative aims to protect passengers’ fundamental rights while promoting the security and integrity of European space by minimising unauthorised cross-border movements of people and goods. ODYSSEUS also intends to optimise the safety of customs and supply chain by improving the prevention, detection, deterrence, and fight against crime involving goods flows across EU external border crossing points and through the supply chain, reducing disruption to trade flows.

BAG-INTEL

BAG-INTEL is a Horizon Europe–funded project designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of customs controls for passenger baggage at inland border airports across the European Union. The project addresses the growing volume of air travellers and the limited human resources available, providing border and customs authorities with advanced tools to strengthen operational performance without requiring additional personnel.

BAG-INTEL seeks to support the protection of passengers’ rights while ensuring secure, effective customs inspections. By leveraging artificial intelligence and data-driven decision-making tools, the project enhances the detection of contraband, streamlines baggage handling processes, and improves overall system performance.

The project develops innovative solutions including AI-powered contraband detection in X-ray scanning, AI-based end-to-end luggage reidentification, and a digital twin for system visualization and optimization. These technologies are validated through targeted use cases at multiple airports, supported by intuitive training materials for end users, ensuring practical applicability and seamless integration into daily operations.

BORDERUAS

Fifteen (15) organizations from nine (9) European countries joined forces for a new project on technologies which enhance border and external security.

The project combines an ultra-high resolution multi-sensor surveillance payload for supporting border surveillance, search & rescue applications and specifically rough terrain detection.

The sensor payload includes synthetic aperture radar (SAR), shortwave/longwave infrared (SWIR/LWIR) and acoustic cameras for landscape mapping, as well as optical and hyperspectral cameras for indirect detection (via vegetation disturbance).

The project uses the ground-based infrastructure of border police units (command & control centers), innovative data models (to identify irregular crossing patterns and preferred routes) and advanced audio/video analytics and storage (to provide additional detection capabilities).
